While this product is well made, I did not feel the pre-set cooking time was sufficient to produce a properly cooked arepa. I had to cook the arepas for a second cycle which produced a tough exterior on the finished product.

Additionally, I feel that this arepa maker makes the arepas too thick and the wells for the dough should be shallower. Overall, I prefer the results I get when I make the arepas by hand where I can control the thickness of them.

I returned the Arepa Maker easily with Amazon's excellent return process. I wish I had been happier with this purchase.

The arepas are toasty on the outside and soft on the inside, as they should be. However, when the lid is opened, the arepas squirt out some uncooked, hot Harina Pan. The lid has a bit of the "spring" to it when it is opened.

I really like the Arepa maker. It give a great shape to the arepas, they are thinner than other that I tried before. I'm really glad to have this Arepa maker at home!

I wanted this to be the one, the one that made perfectly grilled arepas.

But alas, it cooks them only partially, leaving a doughy center with just barely crisped shell.

Even when I bake it for double the time.

I wish I had returned it when I had the chance

I am of German descent but my wife is 1st generation Colombian. I've been trying to learn some of her "home favorites" to make such as pandebonos and arepas. This arepa maker is well put-together and feels solid...no cheap plastic here.

In the past, I've made arepas by forming the dough into pancake size (4" diameter, 1/2" thick) and grilling them. I had hoped that this arepa maker would stop the need for firing up the grill or heating up the oven.

Unfortunately, the arepas come out entirely too thick for us. Using a ball the size of my palm (and I'm not a small guy), I still didn't fill the half-circle area all the way.

Let me be clear on this though: I gave the product 3 stars because it doesn't work -for us-. The maker itself seems to be very nice, it just isn't -what we want-. Also, for those of you that don't read the directions, I recommend following the steps to condition your arepa maker.
