I had a 12-inch frying pan very similar to this one from Revere that I used for 18 years. It was heavy, the copper bottom warmed evenly and I cleaned it when it got black or brown with food like crazy to keep it in good shape all these years. I knew how to cook on it better than any other single piece in my kitchen (except perhaps the coffee machine). The handle rivets finally got loose and the handle fell off so I had to replace it. After shopping around for months I decided to go back to Revereware, more expensive than most but I knew if it worked for 18 years the first time it would work again.
The style and design has changed, unfortunately. The bottom is thinner and when the copper bottom gets warm it "bowls", becoming wobbly on the burner and the warming becomes uneven (the center is the hotspot). The bottom also discolored quickly after only a couple uses. When I hit it against something hard (the counter, not my head) it rings with a hollow sound. Perhaps I didn't order the exact replacement, but this design does not do what I considered to be Revereware's high standards justice.
I'm sure it's fine and I can and will and am getting used to the quirks of this pan. I can't expect things to be perfect or as good as they used to be. But I do miss the heavy, solid quality of the one that lasted 18 years.
