I have owned 3 of these brushes in the past month. I wash all wood by hand, dry immediately and never allow the wood to sit in water. Still, the wood is a cheap brittle wood which soaks up water, expands and contracts and cracks--then the bristles fall out. One came cracked and the other two cracked after just a few uses. I went back to using my Rubbermaid brush designed similarly but with a plastic handle. I have owned other Rubbermaid brushes which have lasted 10 years so far. I have contacted the Lodge company about this brush. Lodge is a great company with EXCELLENT products. This product could lead some to a negative impression if they are not familiar with the usual outstanding quality of Lodge. I'm just surprised--almost stunned by how awful this brush is!

After buying this brush, I realized that I could find the same thing without the Lodge label at Walmart for about $1.50. In fact, I've seen the non-branded version of this brush at a lot of places.
This is just a generic brush. There is nothing special about it and Lodge just sourced it from whatever Chinese company makes the thing and put its logo on it.
If you want to get it as a gift to accompany a Lodge cast iron cookware piece (which are great btw), then that's fine. However, I wouldn't buy it if you are just looking for a brush to clean your cast iron pans because there's nothing special about it and it's twice the cost of something equivalent.
BTW, the bristles turn dark with repeated use but this is true for all brushes used to clean cast iron I think it's something to do with the grease. Therefore, you can't really use the brush for anything else other than cleaning cast iron so keep that in mind.

It does okay. Its a scrubber brush with nylon brsitles. Cleans as well as any other nylon scrubber. I would suggest going to your local supermarket and buying whatever they have there. Any nylon scrubber will wear out over time. Its not a bad product, just not anything special.

I thought that Lodge would manufacture the perfect cleaning utensil for their cast iron pots and pans. I was wrong! It's a cheap wood brush that swells up and cracks. Plus it is designed so poorly, the head keeps falling off of the handle. Yes, definetly buy a brush for your cast iron, it will do the best job. But buy a generic one at the supermarket or Walmart for a lot less money, plus it won't fall apart.

All you need to scrub cast iron is cooking oil and salt. Just make a paste, maybe 1 tablespoon salt and a teaspoon of oil and scrub it around with a paper towel, rinse well and dry throughly. It helps to keep it seasoned also. I saw this tip on the Martha Stewart Show years ago and my skillet still looks new.
