I have never made tortillas before so this is all new to me. I bought one and read the instructions on how to make them. Armed with this info and the other review which suggests cooking them separately, and having seen how Cafe Rio does theirs, I set off on the first batch. The first batch had mixed results, but not bad for first time. The main problem I had was pressing too long and too hard, making it thin and stiff (hard to roll a burrito with a hard shell). This time I did the wheat tortillas (recipe included with the owner's manual) and all of them turned out. The actual press time was less than 10 seconds and included flipping it.
I am really impressed with the non-stick coating. It really does not need any coating on it (even though the manufacturer recommends it) because the tortillas simply will not stick. I center them (after the first press the ball dough will sometimes slide a little because of the slick surface), flip them, and take them out all without a spatula.
Perhaps one thing I do which also helps is that I start the dough off in a bread maker and let it do the kneading for about 10 minutes then form into balls and let them rest for 30 minutes. But as far as being a difficult machine to use I have not found this to be the case just follow the instructions.

I noticed that several reviews indicated that users were using this machine to both press and cook their tortillas. This machine works in the same way as the 3000 dollar tortilla press except no automatic operation, that said a tortilla press needs to be hot to keep the tortilla from shrinking, however the tortilla needs to be finished cooking on a griddle for best results.Best Deals for Buy Download CucinaPro 1443 Flatbread and Tortilla Maker
After reading good reviews about this product, I bought this item. It doesn't get hot enough to cook the rotis. They remain white and if you leave it to cook for too long, they become really hard. Suitable only for making tortillas.Honest reviews on Buy Download CucinaPro 1443 Flatbread and Tortilla Maker
I just got mine today. Made a batch of 12 tortilla's, and they came out great. Pressed into a perfect circle, no sticking, and was able to do a tortilla once every 40 to 50 seconds. SOOOOOO much easier than rolling them out, and cooking them, also was able to get them about just as skinny as store bought. I would recommend this everyday, Its worth the money. We just gave this a whirl for the first time tonight. And I was amazed. I was buying this more to try some gluten-free recipes and was less interested in them being "exactly" like store bought tortillas and more set on knowing the exact ingredients my family was eating. I was prepared for our corn tortillas to not be quite as thin as the ones in stores, but they were awesome. We added more water than the recipe says (which is recommended if you want thinner tortillas) and it worked wonderfully. So yummy and so nice to know exactly what you're eating. We used Bob's Gluten-free Corn Flour and it was fantastic. Tortillas were thin, soft with crispy edges, and easy to work with even after staying in the warmer for a few hours. Then I tried an artisan blend of gluten-free flour and made flatbreads. They were harder to flatten, but gluten-free dough is difficult to work with. Still taste amazing--we're going to make flat-bread pizzas next week. It's so nice to be able to make gluten-free alternatives with this machine. We eat a lot of Tex-Mex so I can't wait to try the black bean/corn tortilla recipe....Yum. I don't know how we lived without this!
