The ad states rough and rugged. What a dummy, I though they meant the quality, not the finish. There was three casting blobs of metal around the top that I spent 45 minutes fileing so the top would come close to closing. I washed with hot water and soap. No help in removing the heavy wax coating. God only knows whats in the Chinese wax, they don't mind using all sorts of poisons in the toys and products they ship to America. I then filled with water and boiled it, followed by another cleaning with soap and water. I then coated with shortning and baked for an hour at 300. A day later I was making a stew and as the meat was simmering I removed the lid. The condesation from the cover dripped on the stove. It was BLACK!! I wiped the inside of the pot above the simmering broth and the paper towel was Black. I have used and owned cast iron for over 35 years. I own over 25 piece's as I do a lot of large scale camp cooking over every type of heating source and have never had this problem. I only own a few pieces of cheap Chinese cast iron but have never run into this problem in the past. It cost me one large dinner already. One other reviewer had the right idea. Use this pot only for some weeds sticking out. Unless you have iron poor blood I would not recomended using this for food.

The pot looked fine on arrival and it claimed to be pre-seasoned so I tried boiling water in on our induction stove to make spaghetti. I quickly became disappointed when the water in the pot turned rusty brown. I called the 800 number on the box and the rep said I should season it again. I did, but the water continues turning rusty brown no matter how many times I rub bacon grease on it. But the Amazon price was low and shipping as free (would not be on return) so now it's just an ornament

Having gotten carried away with the idea of cast iron cookery, I purchased this monstrosity. First attempt to season it went terribly awry (stank like a polecat), so washed it out and tried again, with slightly better results. Strange, as this is definitely not the first cast iron item I've seasoned. The interior surface is very uneven and rough, which I think caused the problem. I then realized that there was no way I could actually cook with this pot, because I'd never be able to lift it when filled. I mean, really an EMPTY pot that weighs 30 pounds?!?!? I know the stated shipping weight is 20 lbs, but they're fudging. Unless Arnold Schwartzenneger decides to visit my kitchen frequently, it would sit on the stove forever.

Do yourself a favor, spend the money and buy a PROPER cast iron soup pot from Lodge or another quality manufacturer. You can be sure I will, from now on.

I bought this to replace my old dutch oven that I used for frying various meals. I like the higher sides it is alot safer and does not splatter as much on the stove top. It has good weigh and once heated up , holds temperature well. The only draw back is that it is very rough cast on the inside and is hard to clean.

Nice price and good service from Amazon.

However, would not recommend for food preparation. Pot turns rusty!!!! I seasoned pot with vegetable oil and bacon. Still, pot turned rusty.
