Old Mountain Pre Seasoned 3 Quart Sauce Pan with Lid ]EXACTLY what I was looking for. Deep, narrow pot perfect for deep-frying small batches. I wanted something for a few tortilla chips at a time, and a few pieces of chicken breast, a-la-chicken nuggets. About a quart of oil will fill it half way up, which is sufficient.

Down side is that it is REALLY heavy. The Chinese are certainly generous with their iron! Even though it is relatively small, I think it is at least as heavy as my 7-quart LeCreuset Dutch Oven!. It does have a helper handle opposite the long handle, plus there is a lip that helps when you pour out the oil.

It works really well; fries things much faster than other pans, for some reason. It is already seasoned, and is ready to use.

Just received my pot and at first I was perplexed over the true size vs the stated size. This pot is exactly 5" tall and I was expecting something taller after reading the size description. Wish when they describe a pots dimensions they would do it with and without the lid, or just simply tell you which the number represents. Just my beef I guess but something to note.

Now...the quality of the casting is very good and I have been looking forEVER for a tall/small cast iron pot for deep frying smaller batches of chicken and shrimp. After a very long search this is the closest I have come yet that is decent quality. It would be absolutely perfect if it were 4 qts with the same style but as mentioned I have been looking a long time so this will do for now. Not elated with purchase but satisfied. Please let me know if anyone ever finds this in a 4qt. MM

THIS PAN IS PERFECT FOR DEEP FRYING SMALLER POTIONS. A LARGE ORDER OF FRIES OR 2 MEDIUM CHICKEN PIECES CAN BE COOKED USING ONLY 1 QT OF OIL. DUE TO THE TAPERING TOWARD THE BOTTOM, THE OIL IS DEEPER; SPLATTERING IS MINIMIZED (DUE TO THE HIGH SIDES) AND THE CAST IRON KEEPS THE OIL TEMP. STEADY. BEST FRYER I HAVE EVER USED! THANK YOU. I agree with other reviewers who've stated the finish is rough. I thought that that wouldn't bother me, but it does. A lot. Every time I rinse and dry the pot, little pieces of paper towel cling to the sides because of the rough finish. It also has an odd odor when I use it, which worries me enough to make me not want to use it.

I really wish Lodge made a pot this size because, even though their products are made in China too, they seem to be of much higher quality than Old Mountain (assuming all Old Mountain's items are as poorly constructed as this pot).

UPDATE 7/14/13

After letting the pot sit in my cabinet for a while, the odor has dissipated. I've used the pot twice recently using coconut oil and it worked great. The finish near the top is still rough so pieces of paper towel still clung to it, but overall I'm happier with the pot and am upping my stars from one to three.

This Old Mountain 3 Quart Sauce Pan was just what we were looking for. We tried to find it localy. We looked at cooking stores but they wanted way to much and did not carry any caste iron sauce pan(s), only Dutch Ovens which I already had. We wanted this pan to cook out on our gas grill's side burner. We can deep fat fry Indian food or other things and not worry about cleaning up spotless like our Calphalon Hard Anodized Cookwear. We tried this with OMG it was so hard to get clean inside & out! We wanted Cast Iron because like my Calphalon Hard Anodized conducts heat evenly. Thank you for such a great deal and Item!
