If you enjoy camping then Dutch oven cooking is a treat. I received this oven as a gift and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I've used Lodge ovens as well, and the advantage this has over a Lodge is the lid. There are three feet on the lid so the lid can be placed upside-down on coals and used as a skillet! Wonderful for cooking breakfast.

I've cooked chicken and rice, cobbler, and biscuits in this oven and it has performed beautifully. For "car camping" this can't be beat. Even my children have enjoyed cooking in this oven it's a family affair!

We purchased this last week and after a single use, I was shocked to find a two-inch chip along the lip of the lid. We've asked Camp Chef to provide a replacement lid. I'll update this when I hear from Camp Chef. I do LOVE the design -the channel for the meat thermometer, the three feet on the lid so that it too can be a cooking surface. Note that the Dutch oven comes WITH a lifter so that there's no need to purchase a separate one.

9/17 Quick Response But Disappointing Response from Camp Chef Support -"I am sorry but we don't sell the lids separately, therefore, you will need to contact Amazon and have then exchange the dutch oven for you." Bummer.

9/19 Amazon wouldn't replace just the lid but was SO fast with the return/replace process. It took just three days -entered the return on Monday, UPS picked up the box on Tuesday, UPS delivered the new unit on Wednesday. Amazing.

We have two other Camp Chef Dutch Ovens but in smaller sizes. Christmas dinner was prime rib made in this well seasoned oven and turned out perfectly. We couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

I have really just started using this for outdoor cooking but it is pretty cool. It is VERY heavy, which is mostly good and it looks like it will last forever. However, it is pretty heavy to carry around. The design on the lid is nice and sets it apart from other cookware. I haven't used the lid as a frying pan yet but it is nice that you can do that. If you want a thermometer to use in the channel the Weber 9815 Replacement Thermometer, also sold on Amazon, works perfectly. My main complaint, and reason for knocking off a star, is that it doesn't hang straight when using the handle to carry or support it. So far I have used it to cook over a wood campfire by using a tripod. If the pot is filled with liquid and you pick it up by the handle, everything spills. I bent the handle using pliers and it hangs much straighter now. I can hang it now but still not carry it. Overall, I think it is a great piece of outdoor cooking equipment.

This is a great oven in my opinion. I have some standard 12" but this one is probably the best at least for my roll making. There is a hole for a thermometer which I use for a steam vent while my rolls are baking. They cam out perfect. 9 briquettes on top, 5 on the bottom and using a Camp Chef Dome, and they were perfect. Cooked about 50 minutes. I do like the ability to use the lid for serving out of and for using as a frying pan. I do certainly recommend this.
