Circulon Contempo Teakettle 2-Quart Whistling Enamel, Red
Mainly at first I wanted a teakettle that I could hear and most I can not. The whistle on this one is not loud but low toned and I can even hear it in my bedroom through a short hall and the full length of the kitchen.
It is heavily enameled inside and out and heats water as fast as the stainless steel one we had. The big plus is the tea tastes better and I thought it was just me and asked my wife if her tea tasted OK from the water out of this kettle and low and behold, she says, it tasts better to me. Don't trust the cheap stainless steel from china or anywhere I believe today.
It has a thick spout and when you pour make sure the spout is half way or more over the top of the cup and you can pour out the last bit without a slobber back on stove or counter.
I keep it clean from scale by adding 2/3 cup regular vinegar as soon as I pour out the last tea while kettle is hot once a month and shake it around and soak for awhile till kettle is cold, rinse out well and put in one cup of water and heat again and pour this out and kettle is clean and no after taste.
The kettle is heavy as most with several cups of water in it but that is because it has some material in it.
You want a good teakettle, I don't see how you can go wrong with this one.
I'm 80 years old and appreciate good quality.
Ole Ernie.

I don't often write reviews for things I buy, but the process of purchasing a kettle required A LOT of research in order to find a great one with no problems, so I hope to maybe save others some of the headache. Look no more! This kettle is outstanding! In researching kettles, there seemed to be "good" ones with one "minor" problem in all the ones I read about. Some dribbled when you poured them, or the handle got too hot, etc. This is built extremely well, and moreover seems to be designed by someone who is actually familiar with the process of making hot water! (as evidenced by user-friendly details, even an appreciation for the art of making tea). It's a great investment: it's built well, works beautifully, and is an attractive "statement piece."The specifics: the lid fits in place securely and can be removed by pulling straight up with just enough force to pop it out. The handle feels sturdy, does not get hot (only warm at the most), and the whole kettle feels well-balanced when lifting and pouring. Water pours directly into desired vessel from spout (no dribbling or counter puddle). The whistle works wellthis is my first time using a kettle with whistle, and I had been worried that the sound would be abrasive and alarming, but it is simultaneously loud enough to attract your attention, but gentle and pleasing as well (it made me think of wind blowing through trees in late autumn). A couple reviewers noted that the handle is fixed upright, but, to me, it has presented no obstruction or problem in pouring water into the kettle (whether from tap, Brita pitcher, etc). I was glad to find that the interior is coated like the exterior (I purchased red and the interior is rich black, which makes nice contrast and matches the handle). Finally, the whistle/spout cover flips up easily and securely when you're ready to pour water.
In conclusion, you will not regret buying this exquisite kettle! I would also like to urge you to read the brief care directions insert, as following the simple guidelines will ensure your kettle works as it should.

Works as advertised. My girlfriend needed a new pot. She will only drink coffee through a french press and loves to use a pot on the stove compared to an electric kettle (don't know why?). She wanted black and we both love contemporary or modern looking products. This fit the bill perfect.-Lid snaps on tight
-No dripping issues while pouring
-Large handle that does not get hot to the touch
-Loud whistle
-Heavy and sturdy (feels like it should last a long time)
-Boils as much or as little water needed very quickly
I would recommend this product to friends and family.....assuming they like the design.

Kettle paint has been coming off after a couple months of regular usage. Found flakes in my tea... Welding is shoddy, as well. I rarely post 1 star reviews but this one was an ethical obligation..if you value your health, do not buy this product.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Best Download Circulon Contempo 2-Qt. Update--July 4, 2012We've used this kettle multiple times every day for almost a year now, and I continue to think it is the best kettle out there. It still looks brand new, cleans up inside and out quickly with no build-up of crud inside, isn't too heavy even when full, and whistles loudly. It splashes while pouring only if you (a) filled it too high or (b) you try to pour before the water has really stopped boiling. The only time the handle gets hot is if it is left to boil too long (a couple of times I've forgotten to close the spout before I put it on so that the steam can't whistle--my dumb fault). I love it so much that I am going to buy another one.

After boiling my old Revereware kettle dry, resulting in a cindered mess, I went looking for a new one and found this, which I got in black. I drink a lot of tea every day and needed a kettle that could stand up to constant hard use; I've used this Circulon kettle heavily every day for several months now and couldn't be more pleased. It is heavy enough to be sturdy but not too heavy to lift even when full; the whistle is loud enough to be heard in the next room but the sound is quite pleasant; it is nicely balanced for pouring and doesn't drip unless it is filled above the level of the spout (which one shouldn't do anyway); the handle stays cool. Before I bought it, I was a bit concerned about two things: first, that the round shape might be a problem on the gas burner (I have a professional-style cooktop with really powerful flames, and I do turn it up high to heat the water quickly), and second, that the spout opener being right where the steam comes out of the spout might mean burnt fingers. But the concerns proved groundless--the bottom covers the flame well, with none escaping up the side to damage the enamel or melt or even heat the handle, and the spout opener has not been a problem at all. I love that the kettle can be filled from the top instead of through the spout--that means, in addition to easy filling, that I can see whether the kettle needs to be cleaned (I don't clean it every day--who has time for that?) I used to get such a gross build-up of gunk from our hard water in the Revereware kettle because I couldn't see into it; when it did become noticeable (yuck!), I had to boil it with vinegar to break up the crud. The Circulon seems not to have the same build-up problem, perhaps because of the enameled interior, perhaps because the bottom is heavier than the copper-bottom Revereware (which was much thinner than the one I used to have decades ago), so that the hard water stuff doesn't get cooked onto the interior. In any case, the Circulon is easy enough to wipe out the bit of residue I do get. The exterior also cleans up beautifully. Because I keep the kettle on the cooktop all the time, it gets spattered during dinner prep with grease, pasta sauce, etc. (I did say "hard use"!). The Revereware was always an ugly mess--I never could get all the grease off once it got boiled on. But the Circulon exterior quickly wipes clean with soapy water. To top it all off, the kettle is gorgeous--it looks serene and stylish sitting on the cooktop. There's not a thing I'd change about the Circulon kettle--it's absolutely perfect.
